How do you convince Americans to leave the car behind and walk or bike instead to work, school, shopping and worship? You pull out all the stops. It’s a very hard sell. We love our cars. We will sit in them for ten minutes in a drive-through lane rather than get up and walk the 50 feet to the counter to order. That’s a problem.
What we learned was that with the right programs and infrastructure in place, a small (for now) number of people will bike or walk. The benefits are endless – better health, a lot of money saved, a healthier environment, etc. The more that message gets out the more people will bike and walk to move!
